Yr 8's will be heading off for their 3 day camp at Wilson's Prom later this month.
Healthy Lifestyles Week & Fun Run
Staff and students who rode or walked to school on October 22nd were welcomed with a healthy breakfast. Breakfast included a range of cereals, yoghert, toast, milo and juice to give them a good start to the day. Students then participated in the Gold Circle Fun Run/Walk yesterday in beautiful sunshine, during period 2. A number of students raised money for the fun run with over $1000 being raised. congratulations to Phil LeBlanc who raised over $300.
G-Connect Breakfast
G-connect held a healthy breakfast on Wednesday at the Regent. A number of girls from Yrs 8, 9, 10 & 11joinedwomen from sporting clubs and a couple of guest speakers in round the table forums on women in sport. One of the guest speakers is Fiona Byrnes, a former student at Yarram Secondary College who went on to play cricket for Victoria and Australia. the other key note speaker was Melissa Brandson a professional golfer from Sale.
Year 10 Masterchefs
Students in Year 10 food tech became master chefs last week, when they planned and cooked a 2 course meal for a special guest. Students asked their guests how much they were prepared to pay, then planned an entree and main, or main and dessert. students prepared a menu and set the table, then cooked and served the meals.
Year 9 CFA Talk
Year 9's had a visit from the local CFA officers last Thursday. They men spoke about fire safety and some students gave a first hand account of their experiences during the Black Saturday fires.
VCE ART ACCOLADES
Five students from years 10, 11 & 12 have their VCE artwork pieces on display in an exhibition called "Flourish" The exhibition at the Gippsland Art Gallery is on until October 10th and features work from VCE students throughout Gippsland. At opening night on Friday, September 11th Izaboa Darvill and Brad Stephens received encouragement awards for their works. Izaboa's piece was a photographic collage depicting racisim, and Brad's was a media collection on "Lamb to the Slaughter" Other students to have work exhibited are Lori Higgins, Ben McGillivray and Chandra Summers.
State Badminton Finals
Our junior boys and junior girls badminton sides competed in the secondary school state finals in Melbourne the last week or term 3. Although not coming in the places, both teams represented the school well against some top class opposition. Well done all.
State finalists
Cameron Juha and Meagan Boast represented the school at the State shooting championships last term. Although not placing they both did the school proud in what was very tough competition.
Well done.
Annual Music concert and Art/Tech Exhibition
This year is the 20th anniversary of our music department and last term we held the 10th annual concert. Along with the concert was the art/tech exhibition featuring works from years 7-10 in wood, metal, food tech, art, photography, media and more. The concert featured our stage and concert bands, rock bands, choir, soloists and there was presentations of awards. It was a great night featuring the talents of many of our students.

New Senior Study Centre
The VCAL boys have been busy putting the finishing touches to the new senior study area. The room is being used as a classroom at the moment but will start as the senior study area during headstart week later this year.
Year 10 Father's Day Luncheon
Once again the year 10's held a very successful luncheon, this time for fathers, grandfathers and male role models in the life of the students. Some students even invited male staff members to join them. Leadership student, Adam Parry spoke about his dad, Helena Palmer about her granddad and Year level coordinator Lyn Kerrison spoke about her dad. Students and special guests then shared a delicious bbq lunch with lots of yummy salads and delicious desserts. Flowers were presented to the year 10 teachers and staff who helped with the function.A big thanks also to the leadership team for organising the event.
LITERACY WEEK
For literacy week students partook in a number of exciting events. Students in Year 9 ventured to local primary schools to read stories, some students even dressing up to enhance the litery works they were reading. On National Literacy Day Years 7-10 students found themselves entangles in a web of literacy games including scatagories, scrabble, upwords, jumbled proverbs and even had the chance to receive a "spider" if they made an alliteration of 7 words. All in all it was great fun.
